Another Place is the name given to the Gormley sculptures on Crosby Beach, Merseyside. There is a collection of 100 identical statues all facing the sea at different distances from the shoreline.
Now, I’ve had a really nice carbon fibre tripod for a few years and it’s had little use, I’ve also got a Hoya 10 stop neutral density filter which has been sitting in a drawer for over 5 years – I had to break the seal on the box to use it today. Similarly I haven’t done any landscape work for an awful long time so this shoot was way off my normal scale and made me think a bit more about the technical aspect of the task as well as the aesthetic one. I spent about 2 hours on the beach and wanted to capture the mood of the place and luckily the lighting conditions helped along with the fact that the tide was beginning to recede.
