Beyond doubt my favourite owl is the Little Owl (Athene noctua) and it’s been a while since I photographed one. The owls in these images are totally wild but have been encouraged to find food in a working farmyard barn. By placing two grubs a metre or so apart it is possible to shoot the owls walking between the two locations as they take both pieces of food. I spent a couple of hours in almost total silence as these wonderful specimens repeatedly took the bait until it was time for them to bask in the sun so we left them to it. Thanks go to Roy Rimmer for the opportunity to shoot these fabulous birds of prey.
