I’ve seen many images, of a very artistic nature, featuring flowers in vases or bottles so I thought I’d give it a go.
The ingredients were pretty simple; an old Honey bottle from 1868, a rose that was past its best, a white-ish backdrop (3 pieces of A3 paper) and a few loose petals. I arranged these until I got a composition that I was finally happy with.
The set-up was equally simple; a tripod mounted camera, two Speedlights – on either side of the subject on mini-tripods and wireless triggers for the Speedlights.
Once I had selected the image that I wanted to work on I brought it into Photoshop and tweaked it a little before adding three textures in Overlay blend mode. I masked each of the layers selectively to give the effect that I envisioned and added shadows to the individual elements and that was it, job done. The textures used are shown below…
