There are a pair of Little Owls just on the outskirts of Clitheroe that seem to have set up a territory in some ageing trees on farmland. They have been spotted by quite a few others as they take their strolls in the countryside, with or without their dogs.
An early (5am) start on a clear warm day was in order and with the sun rising over the hazy mass of Pendle Hill we were in situ to catch the first action of the day. Below are a series of largely environmental shots showing one of the pair as it sought it’s first meals of the day. The photos were taken using a 100-400 lens with a 1.4x extender which gives a good degree of pull but isn’t quite enough to capture close-up or portrait images. I will be working on developing this opportunity if I can to try and get a closer viewpoint.

Oh lovely. Glad you got to see them. It’s the first Little Owls I’ve seen in Clitheroe. 🙂
Thanks Shazza, your photos helped me locate them as I’d seen them somewhere nearby earlier. I will be a regular visitor there now.
How Do Steve. My name is Lee Aaron, from Accrington. I too, i`m in to Wildlife Photography in a big way, using Canon gear. I found this site last week, after meeting two lovely people at Moor Piece who directed me here. Drop in this morning to find just one adult there, but a lovely, natural site. Using my 500mm, 1.4 extender and cropped body, was still not close enough for detail. Also meet a lady, who talked very highly of you and your web-site. Great content and blog there Steve. Check me out on Flicker and Facebook under Lee Aaron Wildlife Photography. May see you out there. Good Luck.
Cheers Lee. I have seen your Facebook site, some great images. No doubt see you there soon.
