A tense day of photographic adjudications was held in November ‘23 where I was hoping to be successful in gaining the newly designated ‘Excellence’ award (EPAGB).
There were many hundreds of prints to be looked at and adjudicated at five different levels with the ‘E’ being the fourth level – with just the ‘Master’ sitting above it. I had made my selection, which changed a couple of times, then reworked & reprinted until I was satisfied. I had a mentor to give advice and also sought the expertise of another very successful and knowledgable photographer and was very happy to take their comments onboard.
When the process started, I had already had the opportunity to view the other levels and enjoyed seeing some quality prints, many of which were recognisable. Tension built as the prints started to be displayed on the stand with scores being attributed. My prints were doing as I hoped they would and my lowest score was a 22 which is the required average score. Out of 10 applicants, 5 were successful of which 4 were from the L&CPU. I have uploaded a page showing the images & scores here.
Below is the usual celebratory photo (with Wendy Stowell, also of Chorley PS) in front of our selected prints.

Congratulations Steve. Unfortunately I missed the mark with my ‘D’ eccreditation today but onward and upward to next time.
Thank you Peter, I’m sorry that you didn’t get over the line but you will have learned something about the standard & hopefully know which prints may need tweaking or replacing. Good luck for your next attempt.
Well done Steve for your success. We were there and saw all the good images being shown. Your panel of prints were excellent and well deserved to get the award.
Thank you Pat, there were many great prints on show & I’m happy that mine made the mark along with the others.
