I had the good fortune to get a invitation to the ‘Bad Reputation‘ water polo tournament held at Manchester Aquatics Centre in April ’26. It’s not a sport that I had photographed before so it took a little research to understand the type of image that I could capture. I had to shoot a little wider than I wanted to as it’s not always certain which way the ball will travel and I didn’t want to cut bits off!.
It’s an indoor sport so it goes without saying that the lighting conditions will be challenging. The low light levels really demand a lens with an aperture of f2.8 or faster and I opted for a 70-200mm f2.8 mid-tele which did a good job for me. The images were processed to crop to a good composition then de-noised and sharpened a touch.
Many thanks to the Manchester Sharks Water Polo team for making me very welcome and I hope that the images are at standard and another invite will make its way to me in the future.
More images can be seen here on this website and also here on my dedicated Sports Portfolio site.
