Chorley PS proudly secures the Photographic Alliance of Gt Britain (PAGB) Digital Championships for an impressive fourth consecutive year.
Champions of Gt Britain Again!
It seemed almost impossible to win this competition four years ago but we are on an amazing, successful run and we pipped Rolls Royce Derby by 1 point this time around to clinch the title outright. There have been 2 tied championships in this run but we have 2 outright wins to go with those – it doesn’t matter though they’re all a win.
The competition pits the top 3 clubs from each Federation against one another over 3 rounds of images, all judged in rapid time by experienced and knowledgable judges – there were 48 clubs in total. Selecting the images for each round can be quite tactical and this is on top of the images all being of the highest standard of club photography. A bank of 40 images is submitted and each round comprises of a number of images from this bank of photographs. Each image is assessed and given a ‘score’ between 6 and 15.
The tactical side of it comes down to assessing what style of images are doing well on the day, a difficult task as the judges are instructed not to favour particular genres or styles.Sometimes even the order in which images are presented can make a very slight difference but every single point matters.
Each of Rounds 1 and 2 needed 8 images, no more than 2 Nature images allowed.
The Final, which is open to the top 8 clubs after Rounds 1 & 2 required 20 images with no more than 5 Nature images amongst them and at least 10 images not previously used in Rounds 1 and 2. I was fortunate to have my maximum allowance of 4 images in the final and fingers were tightly crossed in expectation.
After all the totting up of scores came the suspense as the club’s positions and totatls were read out in reverse order. We had 247 points so keenly listened to the announcements until the top two were left.
We did it – Chorley PS are champions once again.
It was really good to see that 4 clubs in the top 8 were from the Lancashire & Cheshire Federation.
In other Chorley PS news, Speaker of the House of Commons, Lyndsay Hoyle visted the annual club exhibition at Astley Hall and was suitably impressed by the quality and variety of the prints.
