I tried my hand at a bit of macro recently but wanted to shoot something a little bit different. So I attended a ‘North Western Wildlife Workshop‘ held at Appleton’s Exotics in Wigan which was facilitated by Roy Rimmer and Mike Hudson. I had asked before I went if there were any Mantis available to photograph and was presented with this, the Giant Asian Mantis. The ‘Giant’ applies in the insect context as it was only about 50mm long but was certainly photogenic. The Mantis was shot in a table-top set-up using a 100mm macro lens at f32 to get maximum sharpness across its whole body. Some images below…
