I have been undertaking a project centred on Butterflies and trying to improve my portfolio of these delicate invertebrates over the last 12 months.
I have planted a variety of flowers and vegetables in the hope of attracting butterflies to my garden and with some success too. I have so far managed to attract Orange Tips and both Large and Whites (plus selection of moths). As they have laid their eggs I have harvested a small number of them and managed to get them through their life stages until they are fully fledged butterflies when they are photographed and then quickly released.
Below are some images of the latest emerged Large Whites which are probably from the season’s second brood and they will in turn lay the eggs of the third and final brood of the year. In all likelihood the eggs will hatch into caterpillars then over-winter as a Chrysalis until next spring/summer.
