Clitheroe hosts an annual Jazz Festival with artists performing in the town centre and also at certain pubs around the town. I was asked by ‘Ribble Valley Gigs’ to photograph the events that took place outside on the main street, the market place, in Wellgate and finally the Swan courtyard. There were a number of acts who were playing at some or even all of the locations throughout the day, some quite small in number and others, such as the choir fairly large in number. I wanted to get some images that would be memorable and not just standard shots of all of the artists stood together, this proved interesting with the varied backdrops being played against.
Without doubt the most colourful and dramatic of the artists were ‘Blowjangles’ a predominantly brass group who turned up in bright yellow and purple outfits and playing upbeat, up-tempo tunes. The larger groups were more difficult to portray in an interesting format as they were spread over quite some distance. More here: http://www.valleygigs.co.uk/vg_jazz_festival1_2013.html
